We have been finding that everyone and I mean ABSOLUTELY everyone is picking the same players for their team and frankly it’s getting quite dull. The key to winning this comp is having the players that the others don’t have who have that sudden burst in value. Sure someone like Ricky Dyson is a great price in and around the $260000 mark but it’s almost guaranteed that everyone in your comp will have him. Why not take a risk? Or would you rather be a pussy all your life?
Below are listed a few of the names that are worth considering to give your team that something different in your search for the ultimate Supercoach team.
Have a drag on a couple of these Smokies
Looking for the player that might come out of the blocks and surprise the comp or find the guy that you can use as your ‘cash cow’ to trade up to Johncock or Lucas? Then have a quick glance at these.
Andrew Browne - $176500
4 games last year with a high of 19 disposals. Stricken with injury in previous seasons but has been on the list for 6 years with little game time so freo must see something in him. I think he is a great buy if he gets the game time
Andrew Lee – $94200
Son of Bruce. At this price he is certainly a player to consider. 21 year old key defender who has been in the bombers system for a few years now and is a tall body that they could use down back.
Tom Williams – $261100
Injuries in the past have haunted big Tom’s opportunities and only had 13 runs last year. This big, strong, marking backman has delivered big scores in the past and this should continue. Certainty for the price
Shannon Hurn – $359900
Is he the eagle to step into the midfield?
Courtney Dempsey - $266700
Showed in the NAB cup that he has the talent to match his high draft selection. Someone who I think, provided he can get the required game time, will be a high points getter as he reads the ball well and is clever with his disposal. Worth the chance
Leroy Jetta - $152900
A little obvious at this price but falls in the too expensive, too cheap category. Second year player now and judging by the fact that Alwyn Davey spent some time in the midfield (man he can takle!) he might end up with more time as the small forward.
Robert Murphy - $383300
One of the bargains of the competition. Struggled all last year with injuries but is looking good running around a small forward line that now includes Scott Welsh.
Shane Valenti - $83,400
A budget priced player who has delivered in the NAB cup. Expect him to get a game only if long term injuries occur. Consider if money is an issue. Double position player is a bonus.
Khan Haretuku - $83,400
And how can you go past him with a name like that…. Gotta be a star! Tipping he is the first Maori\Iranian to ever pick up a footy. Com’on sainters, we wanna see this boy get a Guernsey. (I am not a fan but love the name!)
Other smokies\rookies to consider:
Leigh Harding, Trent Cotchin, Jamie McNamara, Rhys Palmer, Jarryn Geary and Craig Bird
The 'Ned Kelly' Dead Certs
Players you can rely on to give you a 100 points average and are a safe bet as captain.
Luke Hodge - $594,300
Captain material who averages 22 touches and 5 marks a game and is such a smooth user of it. If he is down back he dominates and if he is up forward he kicks 4 goals. Joel Bowden-like in potential. Only real disadvantage is his tendency to give away free kicks.
Chris Judd - $570,800
Yep, the Juddernaught is back. 20 touches in three quarters at the Carlton praccy shows he has still got it – possibly over the groin. Sure he is not in as strong a midfield as last year but with Stevens, Murphy, Carrazzo and Gibbs you just have to consider.
Brent Stanton - $507,300
A magnet what can I say. The advantage with him is that he is not the greatest user of the ball (sounds stupid but stay with me) so quite often doesn’t get a hard tag. I expect him to peak this year.
Other notables; Quentin Lynch, Adam Schneider, Andrew McLeod
Middle ranged priced players ready to take the next step (Isla Fisher types. HA!)
Brent Guerra - $482,000
Okay so he is not cheap but is the designated kicker at the hawks so you have to consider (play on brett, play on!!!). Uses the ball very well and will be one that most don’t have. All over him.
Luke Ball - $464400
I am loathed to put him in this category but due to the OP he has suffered in recent years he is a steal. Seems to be over this and is running well. Expect him to put up big numbers. Must consider.
Jason Gram – $458,200
Running backman who can\does play midfield. Scored 153 supercoach points to be the highest scorer on the ground in the NAB cup final. Has shown consistency this year. As his name suggests, he will be lightly selected…..
Andrew Welsh – $383300
Underrated in this game. Spent a bit of time floating forward last year and expect this to continue. No longer a stopper so goes and gets the ball and will be expected to show leadership and step up this year. A great buy for the price
Adam Cooney - $484600
Coon is possibly set for a breakout year and has show enough in the preseason games to suggest this is the case. If you are looking for that someone different then why not go the coonmeister?
Jobe Watson - $471800
The bombers number one possession per minute player who struggled for game time under Sheedy. If Matty Knights gives him more game time then he will rocket up in value.
Mark Couglan - $260500
That is, if he plays. He is so cheap (averaged 90 is his last full year of S\C) for a player of his quality. Coming off two knees so is a major risk but one to keep an eye on.
Other notables; Mark ‘Choco’ Williams, Travis Boak,
The steer clear of's........
Raphael Clarke - $287,700
48 supercoach points in th final. Prone to skill errors and stupid, stupid decisions. Clangers cost you dearly this year. He obviously drafts in his opponent each week.
Kepler Bradley – $177,000
If you have never had the pleasure of watching this guy play get along to a Freo game this year. I would put money on a kid with a sweet tooth bumping into a pedophiliac clown being able to make a better decision than Kepler. Stay away like your virginity depended on it!
Josh Gibson – $390,500
Anyone who falls over in the shower and misses games because of it (money says he had a run in with Carl Williams!) is not destined to make your dream team. Barge Pole alert.
David Neitz - $294,000
Injury prone, slow and playing in the worst team in the comp are enough to steer clear of him. He is no Barry Hall and will not, I repeat, will not, see a price resurgence. Put him in a paddock.
Nick Malcheski – INJ
Beau Muston – INJ
Mitch Brown - INJ
Nathan Ablett – RET
Questions to ponder….Hmmm
Is the price of Matthew Kruezer to high for a bench player (and ruckman at that)?
What has happened to Ricky Dyson – fallen off the radar again?
Porpyliza or Burton? One is more consistent but also injury prone
Will Marty Mattner really fill the role of the Maltro? I don’t think so.
Do the eagles have another Priddis hiding somewhere?
Right, so there you have it. Some alternative names that might come in handy when selecting your team that is your Mischa Barton to your opponents Sarah Michelle Geller (hey, whats she done since Scooby Doo?).
Best of luck kiddies.
