The Brief...
- McLeod on fire!
- Porplyzia does it again
- Crows young rucks will be having nightmares of Aaron Sandilands
- Are Freo players any use for Dream Team at all?
The Crows
For the Crows it was a huge return to form for the "Ferrari" Andrew McLeod. The superstar veteran racked up 99 DT points and 113 SC's! A DT Hero favourite is Jason "couldn't pronounce his last name if there was a free pint in it for me" Porplyzia and he did't let us down with 83 DT's and 110 SC's. There's probably never been a more Adelaide name than "Scott", arch-rival's the Power are even sponsored by "Scott's", but for the Crows it was two other Scott's, Stevens (82,118) and Thompson (79,99) who were also piling on the points. Brent Reilly deserves a mention with above average numbers of 83 and 82.
From there the list drops off pretty sharply for the Crows. DT glamour boys Chris Knights (59,74) and Brad Symes (48,51) need to push for more of it. Ruckman Kurt Tippett (33,29) didn't impress us as much as in round 1, while fellow ruck Ivan Maric (9,12) did even less! Both were well beaten by Sandilands.Meanwhile, Simon Goodwin came off the ground in the 3rd quarter, explaining his low figures of 32 DT's and 44 SC's.
The Dockers
There's patchy scores all the way down the Freo list and with a lack of consistency among their contributers it's a challenge finding a Docker that could be useful in your Dream Team. It's not often we struggle to find a reason to mention the top-scoring DT plater but it was Dean Solomon with 86 DT's and 88 SC's - good work Dean. Paul Duffield managed 83 DT points and somehow only 52 SC's so we'd love to know where his kicks were going.
Now onto some Dockers you could actually consider... Superstar Matthew Pavlich (75,112) improved on last weeks lethargic efforts, letting Dream Team and SuperCoaches know he's still interested in signing up. Felow big gun Aaron Sandilands (77,89) scored well in the ruck against weak opposition.
Onto the disapointments now, and there's really too many to mention but here we go... Michael Johnson (67,48), Mark Johnson (60,72), Des Headland (60,71), Josh Carr (51,28), Jeff Farmer (48,46), Shaun McManus (41,31), Kepler Bradley (36,34) - since when did recruiting unwanted Essendon players ever work??? - Matthew Carr (35,39), Byron Schammer (27,4)... DT Hero is especially down on our 2006 hero David Mundy. We claimed he was back last week and now away from Subiaco he can only manage scores of 55 DT's and 36 SC's - and that's the problem with Freo players, they're mostly inconsistent and don't score away from home. Even the Pav is inconsistent but at least he can pile on the big totals and he's as good either side of the border.
Freo at least have a few rookies in the mix who are looking useful if given the game time, and when you look who's in the team why should't they? Rhys Palmer (42,38) is consistently talked up and Josh Head (48,57) continues with some handy numbers. For the price tags on these guys we're hoping they can get 22 games each!
What's Next?
The Crows dream run continues with a home NAB Cup semi-final against the Hawks at Footy Park in Adelaide.
Freo have it pretty good as well with a challenge match at home next Sunday against the Kangaroos.
