With experimental sides and plenty of stars out of the action, North have defeated Brisbane, Richmond defeated Melbourne, West Coast defeated Collingwood and Sydney pounded Port Adelaide in the NAB Challenge this weekend. We'll update this post with all the news and stats as it comes in...
Kangaroos V Lions
The Kangaroos defeated a Lions side fielding 11 first and second year players. The final scoreline 13.7 (85) to 7.11 (53).
No injuries have been reported and here' s some early stats in from Champion Data:
- Brent Harvey (Kangaroos) – 31 disposals and 97 DT points
- Matt Campbell (Kangaroos) – 10 disposals, 7 tackles and 79 DT points
- Albert Proud (Lions) – 29 disposals and 107 DT points
- Tim Notting (Lions) – 21 disposals, 3 goals and 109 points
Tigers V Demons
Not much news in from this one... The Tigers one by 35 points in Cairns and fielded a stronger side than the Dee's.
In the reduced pressure the Tigers mid-field was much slicker than last week with Richard Tambling, Chris Newman and Kane Johnson all putting plenty of the balls forward.
The big forwards "Richo" and "Nieter" didn't make the trip.
Eagles V Magpies
The Eagles go the "points" 15.15 (99) to 9.12 (66) against an inexperienced Magpies line-up. West Coast went in without the injured Daniel Kerr and skipper Darren Glass, while the Pies left behind Alan Didak, Scott Pendlbury, Josh Fraser, Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas and Scott Burns.
Dean Cox was a standout for the Eagles along with David Wirrpanda (three goals), while Ben McKinley, Brent Staker and Jaymie Graham booted 2 goals each. Scott Selwood was again the most impressive of the young Eagles.
Nick Maxwell captained the second-string Magpies side, which unfortunately lost youngster Brad Dick to a knee injury, although we're uncertain of the severity at this stage.
Paul Medhurst presented in the middle and Ben Reid up forward kicked three goals. Magpies recruit Cameron Wood reportedly also impressed in the ruck.
West Coast head to Alice Spring for a challenge match against Carlton next week and the Magies return home for a Saturday game at Princes Park against the Power.
Swans V Power
Not much has been reported on this game yet, except the Swans flogged Port by 69 points yesterday at ANZ Stadium (Sydney's Olympic Stadium - we think?).
