As Adelaide's first-choice ruckman Ben Hudson prepares for a move to the Bulldogs, his team-mate John Meesen is also looking to come to Victoria - probably to Melbourne.
Although his performances haven't shown much to date - he gathered just eight disposals and 12 hit-outs in his only two games this year - Meesen is a highly-rated ruckman, who reportedly has the game to rack up big possession numbers, making him well worth watching closely for fantasy purposes.
However, he was the Crows' fifth-choice ruckman, and although more opportunities may come at the Demons, he may still prove unreliable. Ruckman famously take years to mature and develop.
Speaking of ruckmen developing, it appears that Brisbane's Cameron Wood is also heading elsewhere. Like Meesen, Wood was an early draft pick (18, 2004) and he may end up replacing Hudson at the Crows. (He was recruited from West Adelaide FC).
However, the real story here is just how fast Matthew Leuenberger is developing at the Lions. The Berger has already overtaken Wood in the pecking order, and thus is a solid chance to play many games next season.
After averaging a paltry 34 in his nine games this season, Leuenberger hasn't set the world on fire. But this will ensure a relatively cheap price at the start of '08, and with ruckmen hard to pick, I reckon he's a handy bench player who's a certainty to improve his numbers.
Wood may also look ok at a new club, but we'll cross that bridge if and when it's built.
EDIT: Chris Grant has retired, and Paul Hasleby has re-signed with the Dockers. The first one could cause a bit of interest for fantasy coaches - the second, with Hasleby's injury worries, should not.
